Effects of the French and Indian War

Impacts of the French and Indian War For what reason do I think the French and Indian war made America? Quite a bit of students of history take a shot at the formation of America has concentrated essentially upon the War of Independence and its extraordinary impact in molding the establishments of the American state. This academic concentration upon the War of Independence as the support of America has implied that the French and Indian war has preferably less essentialness in the mainstream creative mind over it merits. It is the point of this paper to show that the French and Indian war was not only a minor forerunner to the substantially more generally perceived American War of Independence yet rather an original occasion in its own correct that profoundly affected the course of American history. The French and Indian war planted the seeds for the making of America as we probably am aware it today. The prominent antiquarian Fred Anderson accepts that the significance and impact of the French and Indian war was to such an extent that he terms it â€Å"the war that made America.†[1] The contention that the French and Indian war made America will be made with the piece of the accompanying focuses: Firstly, the war changed the colonials’ perspective on their own remaining inside the Empire. They accepted that they had substantiated themselves as equivalents yet their status had not experienced a comparative transformation according to the Whitehall. Furthermore, the expulsion of the French danger from North America drove some to address why they expected to proceed in their relationship with the British. Thirdly, the French and Indian war prompted the Royal Proclamation of 1763 which precluded the articulation from claiming the colonies’ assurance for additional westbound development. At long last, the expense of the French and Indian war, and the more extensive Seven Years Warâ led to expanded assessments being forced upon the states, burdens that were progressively observed as an uncalled for inconvenience. These variables delineated joined to deliver the hunger for autonomy from the British Crown and drove at last to the formation of America. The French and Indian war started a social move which drove the colonials to imagine themselves as equivalent accomplices in the [British] empire†[2], a thought that put them at chances with their British overlords and at last prompted strife with the British Empire and the inevitable making of a free America. The pioneers accepted that their endeavors in the war had demonstrated their status as equivalent individuals from the Empire. They were, as they would like to think now ‘partners in Empire.’ There was a feeling of pride in having a place with the Empire. Benjamin Franklin praised â€Å"not only as I am a pioneer, yet as I am a Briton.†[3] In a disposition of cheering, New York raised sculptures of King George III and William Pitt. Notwithstanding, the British didn't concur that the settlers had earned their recently discovered status as accomplices in Empire. The perspectives on the British had not modified, the confidence in the Empire’s chain of command and the power of the Crown remained. These contending dreams of empire[4] were hopeless and implied at this point further division between the different sides. The Treaty of Paris (1763) saw France lose the entirety of its North American region east of the Mississippi put something aside for the two little islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. This steering of the French drove the settlements to address very why they ought to stay attached to the British. There was currently no shared adversary to join them. In 1773 the regal legislative leader of Massachusetts expressed that had Canada â€Å"remained to the French none of the soul of restriction to the Mother Country would yet have appeared.†[5] The expulsion of the French danger that came about because of the contention cultivated an environment in which the colonials started to bring forth their own thoughts of popular government and self-rule accordingly furnishing them with the scholarly and philosophical ammo with which to assault British dominion The British were worried that the provinces western outskirts ought not grow any further, in case it irritate the Indian clans and consequently incite a further spate of contentions. Besides, Britain’s new North American Empire, less the French, was immense and any endeavors to augment it yet further gambled rendering it ungovernable. Accordingly the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted further westbound extension past the Appalachian Mountains. The launch of the French from North America implied that the colonists’ want for additional westbound extension became more grounded at the very time when such development was denied by the Crown. According to the colonials the war had opened up the huge North American landmass for additional development and settlement. A 1763 famer’s chronological registry summarized the overarching state of mind; â€Å"But now observe! The rancher may have land for nothing†¦Land enough for himself and every one of his children, b e they ever so many.†[6] Something needed to give and the issue of pushing back the wildernesses before long carried the provinces into strife with the Empire and added to the uproar for autonomy. Unexpectedly the imperials expansionist desire of the pioneers brought helped turn them against the burdens of the British Empire. The enormous expense of the French and Indian clash, and the more extensive Seven Years War implied that British obligation spiraled subsequently. To help facilitate this money related weight a more noteworthy tax assessment was forced upon the provinces. This financial weight, alongside the philosophical complaints no imposing taxes without any political benefit went the celebrated cry †made the states further inquiry the knowledge of British standard. Ensuring the mainland had cost the British truly and comparative with British citizens the homesteaders paid less in charges despite the fact that they were increasingly prosperous. A prewar British obligation of  £73 million had developed to  £137 million postwar[7] and the weight of directing North America was presently progressively exorbitant in light of the fact that the Empire had extended so incredibly. The pilgrims protested paying what they saw as subjective duties to an inaccessible parliament where no settler sat. Besides, the new expenses came when the pioneer economy was enduring a downturn, making them significantly more detested. The defiance over assessments, the Stamp Act specifically, likewise had the impact of validating British intuitions that the settlers yearned for freedom and helped set the homesteader on a crash course with the Mother nation. Taking everything into account, this paper has exhibited that the French and Indian war was a significant contributing component in the making of an autonomous America. While the American War of Independence may get a great part of the wonder, the occasions of 1754â€1763 unmistakably planted the seeds for the colonies’ split away from the British Empire. It did as such because of four key reasons. Right off the bat the war urged the colonials to see themselves as equivalents yet their status had has not experienced a comparative transformation according to the Mother nation, prompting discontent in North America. Furthermore, the evacuation of the French danger likewise implied the expulsion of the shared adversary that unified the states and Britain, in this way driving the homesteaders to scrutinize their connections to the Crown. Thirdly, the French and Indian war, because of the tremendous extension of the North American realm, brought about Royal Proclamation of 1763 w hich denied any further westbound development, the very development that the pilgrims wanted. At long last, the expense of the French and Indian war, and the more extensive Seven Years War prompted expanded charges being forced upon the provinces who hated paying what they felt were discretionary assessments to an inaccessible parliament, particularly in a period where they were encountering a monetary downturn. These variables joined to feed the flames of autonomy and insubordination in North America prompting the formation of an American country liberated from government. As Anderson contends, without the French and Indian war â€Å"American autonomy would most likely have been long delayed†[8] List of sources Anderson, Fred, Crucible of War: The Seven Years War and the Fate of Empire in British North America, 1754-1766 (London: Faber, 2000) - , The War That Made America: A Short History of the French and Indian War (New York: Penguin, 2006) Fowler, William M, Empires at War: The French and Indian War and the Struggle for North America, 1754-1763 (New York: Walker, 2005) Jennings, Francis, Empire of Fortune: Crowns, Colonies and Tribes in the Seven Years War in America (New York: Norton, 1988) McLynn, Frank, 1759: The Year Britain Became Master of The World (London: Jonathan Cape, 2004) Taylor, Alan, American Colonies: The Settling of North America (London: Penguin, 2001) Commentaries [1] Anderson, Fred, The War That Made America: A Short History of the French and Indian War (New York: Penguin, 2006) [2] Anderson, Fred, Crucible of War: The Seven Years War and the Fate of Empire in British North America, 1754-1766 (London: Faber, 2000) [3] Taylor, Alan, American Colonies: The Settling of North America (London: Penguin, 2001), 437 [4] Anderson, The War That Made America , 746 [5] Taylor (operation cit) 438 [6] Ibid. 437 [7] Ibid. 439 [8] Anderson, Crucible of Wa,r xi

It works all the exercises which are for the most part associated with the gas and oil which mean refining, creating, investigating, advertising and dispersing these items on the planet showcase. It likewise utilizes the sustainable power sources like sun based and wind power. The creation of raw petroleum just as flammable gas produce by British Petroleum reaches to practically 4.1 million consistently. It has just about 85 thousand workers who are working in right around 110 nations. It is viewed as a significant company (Gilmour, 2014). The interconnection between the general public and the business is called business morals which comprise of two central matters of view. First being the principle reason for any business is to procure the benefit, this view is with respect to the business though the subsequent view is in regards to the general public which implies that the general public consider the business exercises as a piece of the general public, and the strategies followed by the business ought to be worthy by them and positive for the general public (Gaskill, 2011). Once in a while there are circumstances when to acquire the benefit the business need to take certain choices which are not good for the general public and makes harms the general public which is called moral business issues. There exists circumstance when the choice of the business is unscrupulous and against the social ethics like condition contamination and risky condition conditions which influence the partners. Such occurrences have been found in Deepwater Horizon oil spills. In the year 2010 on twentieth April, a blast happened on the penetrating foundation of the Mexico Gulf, which is one of the biggest blast till date throughout the entire existence of the oil business. In this mishap of Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, 11 specialists were slaughtered, and 17 had genuine wounds In this mishap right around 150 thousand barrels of oil was flushed into the sea(Crowsey, 2013). Numerous legislature and non-government association researched the purposes behind the blast and the explanation behind this enormous blast at the profound water Horizon Oil spill was exploitative conduct. The different reasons for this blast were the amateurish conduct of the higher specialists of the organization, and the structure of oil stage which is required for boring was not introduced appropriately. BP proceeded with the penetrating by utilizing a modest structure of the well which was viewed as very risky. It influenced the travel industry and fish industry (Shamonda, 2014). This blast had made incredible harm the notoriety of British Petroleum and confidence of the partner were lost. It caused immense monetary misfortunes. Likewise, the mishap caused the deficiency in the gracefully of oil for utilization of the buyers. This frequency made an issue for other oil organizations when limitation in the oil boring territories and new guidelines were forced (Mitsch,2010). This influenced the picture of the British Petroleum which thusly influenced their partners, technologist, and workers. There are different speculations of moral conduct which all the organizations need to follow to spare the earth and work to serve the general public. One such moral hypothesis is Mills Utilitarianism hypothesis which incorporates the satisfaction standard which means carrying most prominent utility to an enormous number of individuals. This hypothesis recommends that conduct is viewed as moral on the off chance that it benefits countless individuals. Regardless of whether in this procedure an individual needs to forfeit their bliss by giving joy to an enormous number of individuals than the conduct is viewed as moral. It made lost million the organization which thus influenced the picture of the organization and the confidence of its representatives, partners, and so on. This blast will have a negative impact for a considerable length of time to come. Notwithstanding these misfortunes, the cleaning procedure additionally had a negative impact since it caused air and water contamination. This rate has impacted the thinking about all the individuals engaged with it and they were thinking to move to other vitality sources on the grounds that the oil slick negatively affects nature. A great deal of steps were taken after the incident.BP currently concentrates more on nursery outflow and an Earth-wide temperature boost with the goal that a superior situation is given to the people in the future. Partners are more worry about the cost of the oil and the contamination that is made by the oil business. They currently contribute more on normal wellsprings of vitality like sun powered and wind vitality and putting resources into biofuels. It is thinking of new innovation and venture to utilize common wellsprings of vitality. The utilization of oil and its items are expanding each year; along these lines, BP is following method with the goal that the nursery gasses that are radiated in nature are diminished so it doesn't make a destructive impact on the earth (Pezeshki DeLaune, 2015). It is an interest in the undertaking and innovation and enhancing new innovation with the goal that it makes low carbon items for what's to come. To recuperate from the demolition caused because of oil slick the organization has followed different cleaning effort which is assisting with recouping the misfortune caused to the travel industry and the marine life. The oil and oil industry ought to consider their mindfully to not to hurt the earth and the untamed life and work towards the advantage of the general public. The Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico was caused essentially because of the carelessness of the top specialists and because of dishonest practices followed by the organization. The correct structure that was required for boring design was not built which lead to such gigantic pulverization. Better advances and development ought to be utilized, so the organization can play out its activity effectiveness and to dispose of the superfluous consuming of the gasses and to stop the spillage. This should be possible by utilizing the sustainable wellsprings of vitality and utilizing better and new innovations. The BP should move in the direction of the safeguarding of the earth for the future and security nature from the hurtful impact caused because of this industry (Gaskill, 2011). The improvement of the general public and the earth oug ht to be the first and most significant objective of the oil and oil industry. References Crowsey, R. (2013). The Spanish Conquistadors

From the moment of Christopher Columbus discovery of lands previously unknown to Europe in 1492, the New World captured the imagination of European adventurers. Thousands of men came to the New World to seek fortune, glory, and land. For two centuries, these men explored the New World, conquering any native people they came across in the name of the King of Spain (and the hope of gold). They came to be known as the conquistadors. Who were these men? Definition of Conquistador The word conquistador comes from Spanish and means he who conquers. The conquistadors were those men who took up arms to conquer, subjugate, and convert native populations in the New World. Who Were the Conquistadors? Conquistadors came from all over Europe. Some were German, Greek, Flemish, and so on, but most of them came from Spain, particularly southern and southwestern Spain. The conquistadors typically came from families ranging from the poor to the lower nobility. The very high-born rarely needed to set off in search of adventure. Conquistadors had to have some money to purchase the tools of their trade, such as weapons, armor, and horses. Many of them were veteran professional soldiers who had fought for Spain in other wars, like the reconquest of the Moors (1482-1492) or the Italian Wars (1494-1559). Pedro de Alvarado was a typical example. He was from the province of Extremadura in southwestern Spain and was the younger son of a minor noble family. He could not expect any inheritance, but his family had enough money to purchase good weapons and armor for him. He came to the New World in 1510 specifically to seek his fortune as a conquistador. Armies Although most of the conquistadors were professional soldiers, they werent necessarily well-organized. They were not a standing army in the sense that we think of it. In the New World, at least, they were more like mercenaries. They were free to join any expedition they wanted to and could theoretically leave at any time, although they tended to see things through. They were organized by units. Footmen, harquebusiers, cavalry, and so on served under trusted captains who were responsible to the expedition leader. Conquistador Expeditions Expeditions, such as Pizarros Inca campaign or the countless searches for the city of El Dorado, were expensive and privately financed (although the King still expected his 20 percent cut of any valuables discovered). Sometimes the conquistadors themselves chipped in funds for an expedition in the hopes that it would discover great wealth. Investors were also involved: wealthy men who would provision and equip an expedition expecting a share of the spoils if it discovered and looted a rich native kingdom. There was some bureaucracy involved, as well. A group of conquistadors could not just pick up their swords and head off into the jungle. They had to secure official written and signed permission from certain colonial officials first. Weapons and Armor Armor and weapons were crucially important for a conquistador. Footmen had heavy armor and swords made of fine Toledo steel if they could afford them. Crossbowmen had their crossbows, tricky weapons which they had to keep in good working order. The most common firearm at the time was the harquebus, a heavy, slow-to-load rifle. Most expeditions had at least a few harquebusiers along. In Mexico, most conquistadors eventually abandoned their heavy armor in favor of the lighter, padded protection the Mexicans used. Horsemen used lances and swords. Larger campaigns might have some artillerymen and cannons along, as well as shot and powder. Loot and the Encomienda System Some conquistadors claimed that they were attacking the New World natives to spread Christianity and save the natives from damnation. Many of the conquistadors were, indeed, religious men. However, the conquistadors were far more interested in gold and loot. The Aztecs and Inca Empires were rich in gold, silver, precious stones, and other things the Spanish found less valuable, like brilliant clothes made of bird feathers. Conquistadors who participated in any successful campaign were given shares based on many factors. The king and the expedition leader (like Hernan Cortes) each received 20 percent of all loot. After that, it was divided up among the men. Officers and horsemen got a larger cut than foot soldiers, as did crossbowmen, harquebusiers, and artillerymen. After the King, officers, and other soldiers had all gotten their cut, there was often not much left for the common soldiers. One prize which could be used to buy off conquistadors was the gift of an encomienda. An encomienda was land given to a conquistador, usually with natives already living there. The word encomienda comes from a Spanish verb meaning to entrust. In theory, the conquistador or colonial official receiving an encomienda had the duty of providing protection and religious instruction to the natives on his land. In return, the natives would work in mines, produce food or trade goods, and so on. In practice, it was little more than slavery. Abuses The historical record abounds in examples of conquistadors murdering and tormenting native populations, and these horrors are far too numerous to list here. Defender of the Indies Fray Bartolomà © de las Casas listed many of them in his Brief Account of the Devastation of the Indies. The native populations of many Caribbean islands, such as Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico, were essentially wiped out by a combination of conquistador abuses and European diseases. During the conquest of Mexico, Cortes ordered a massacre of Cholulan noblemen. Only months later, Cortes lieutenant Pedro De Alvarado would do the same thing in Tenochtitlan. There are countless accounts of Spaniards torturing and murdering natives to obtain the location of the gold. One common technique was to burn the soles of someones feet to get them to talk. One example was Emperor Cuauhtà ©moc of the Mexica, whose feet were burned by the Spanish to make him tell them where they could find more gold. Famous Conquistadors Famous conquistadors who have been remembered in history include Francisco Pizarro, Juan Pizarro, Hernando Pizarro, Diego de Almagro, Diego Velazquez de Cuellar, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, Juan Ponce de Leon, Panfilo de Narvaez, Lope de Aguirre, and Francisco de Orellana. Legacy At the time of the conquest, Spanish soldiers were among the finest in the world. Spanish veterans from dozens of Europeans battlefields flocked to the New World, bringing their weapons, experience, and tactics with them. Their deadly combination of greed, religious zeal, ruthlessness, and superior weaponry proved too much for native armies to handle, especially when combined with lethal European diseases, such as smallpox, which decimated native ranks. Conquistadors left their marks culturally as well. They destroyed temples, melted down golden works of art, and burned native books and codices. Defeated natives were usually enslaved via the encomienda system, which persisted long enough to leave a cultural imprint on Mexico and Peru. The gold the conquistadors sent back to Spain began a Golden Age of imperial expansion, art, architecture, and culture. Sources Diaz del Castillo, Bernal. The Conquest of New Spain. The Civil Rights Of The United States - 902 Words

Jury duty is a constitutional and fundamental right guaranteed to American citizens. Jury service is a way for citizens to directly participate in the judicial system. Jury duty and jury trials have been around for so long that people take it for granted. The jury was one of the factors that caused the American Revolution because the English common law system did not allow alleged criminals to have the sixth amendment rights that the United States has today. In fact, The Declaration of Independence charged that King George III deprived the colonists of a trial by jury (United States Federal Judicial Center, n.d). The Founding Fathers of the United States established the role of the jury and the right to trial by jury in most criminal and civil cases in the Constitution but that clearly cannot be fulfilled unless there are people serving on a jury. The Constitution holds the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Amendment, which are the amendments that involve the right to trial by jury. First, the Fifth Amendment provides for grand juries in criminal cases that hear the evidence from the prosecutor and decide whether to issue an indictment. Second, the Sixth Amendment declares, â€Å"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed (U.S. Const. amend. Debunking the Bermuda Triangle free essay sample

Jorge Thompson Debunking the Bermuda Triangle The Bermuda Triangle is a triangular area in the Atlantic Ocean right off of the southeast coast of the United States. Legend has it that many people, ships, and planes have mysteriously vanished in this area because of the area’s mystical properties. These properties have formed several theories for the disappearances. They carry little validity and fail to take into account simple scientific and logical facts. The Bermuda Triangle can be easily explained by simple facts and there is no mystery that needs to be solved. The Bermuda Triangle legend began when several Navy planes vanished on a training mission during a severe storm in 1945. The legend continued to grow over the years as many more vehicles disappeared in the area. Instead of attributing the accidents to natural storms or instrument error, believers explain the incidences as the acts of evil extraterrestrials, residue crystals from Atlantis, magnetic fields, or methane gas. The easiest way that the Bermuda Triangle can be disproven is by investigating the assumptions of the believers. Some of the explanations for the Bermuda Triangle seem to be scientific in nature. The magnetic disturbance and methane gas explanations both use scientific language in order to assert the claims. The theories are not substantiated by the mere use of scientific language. In fact, they are discredited after finding that there is not any evidence behind them. The magnetic theory is easily disproven. The Bermuda Triangle is claimed to be one of the two places on earth that a magnetic compass points toward true (and not magnetic) north. The difference between true and magnetic north is known as compass variation and can cause variations as much as 20 degrees. The area where true and magnetic north are equal is called the Agonic Line. This line is supposedly the cause of the anomalies in the triangle. The Agonic Line moves slowly over time as it responds to the Earth’s rotation. At present, the line is now on the west side of the Florida panhandle while the disappearances continue to happen in the triangle area. The second â€Å"scientific† theory is the methane explanation. This theory was introduced by Monash University in the American Journal of Physics and stated that methane deposits on the ocean floor produced vast gas bubbles which were capable of sinking ships and crashing airplanes. This theory has some validity to it, but only in limited situations. â€Å"For a large methane bubble to be produced quickly, it would probably have to be released by a catastrophic drop in pressure† (Deming). This dramatic drop in pressure is possible if a submarine landslide occurs, but these slides are few and far in between, making this theory unlikely. Scientific language does not make a science. Arguments â€Å"†¦mean nothing without evidence, experimental testing, and corroboration† (Shermer 49). The claims simply do not meet the burden of proof. The extraterrestrial argument is easily debunked by this fallacy as well. There is simply no evidence to support the claims of extraterrestrial interference. Believers may say that there is no evidence to support these skeptical arguments. There may not be evidence to support the skeptical arguments, but this does not make the claims of the believers true. The Bermuda Triangle has another simple and non-mysterious explanation. There is some dispute about the exact area that comprises the triangle. The general consensus is that the points on the triangle are Miami, the island of Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. Some estimates include the Andes and the Gulf of Mexico in the triangle. The area is about the size of Texas. An exact number of incidents that have occurred in the area is unknown. A rough estimate is about 200 to 1,000 incidents in the past 500 years. A more conservative estimate is given by Howard L. Rosenberg. â€Å"During the past century more than 50 ships and 20 aircraft sailed into oblivion in the area known as the Devils Triangle, Bermuda Triangle, Hoodoo Sea, or a host of other names† (Rosenberg 13). This estimate was published in 1974 and it is reasonable to assume that traffic has increased since then. However, according to the Navy, the incidences in the Bermuda Triangle are not more numerous than any other area. â€Å"To see how common accidents are at sea, you can examine some of the recent accident reports of the National Transportation Safety Board for  ships  and  aircraft† (The Bermuda Triangle). The reports show hundreds of incidents occurring all over the world. Few take place in the triangle area and those that do take place in the area are easily explainable by such things as engine failures or running out of fuel. One of the aircraft accident reports concerns an in-flight engine failure and subsequent ditching of a Cessna aircraft This is the type of accident that would likely have been attributed to mysterious causes in the Bermuda Triangle†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (The Bermuda Triangle). The accidents in the triangle happened because of human error, meteorological factors, or instrument failure, not because of mystical properties. Facts are important to reinforce a ny argument or claim. The facts surrounding some of the stories about the disappearances or crashes in the Bermuda Triangle do not exactly correspond on all points. Some of the crashes do not have any surviving witnesses to explain exactly what happened. The public has relied on speculation and superstition to fill a need for an explanation where that need could have just as easily been filled with logical and scientific reasoning. Natural events such as hurricanes and tropical storms can crash airplanes and ships and are much more easily proved than aliens planning to destroy humanity. Some of the basic facts and supposed evidence that support the Bermuda Triangle phenomenon do not make logically sound arguments, but they do make sensational stories.

Peculiarities of the Landscape of Unions within the Process of Globalization

Labor unions as the associations of the workers and employees are proceeded from the idea of creating the good environmental conditions, including the adequate pay and fair working hours. Joined together, people can protect their rights and improve the process, developing more comfortable conditions.Advertising We will write a custom case study sample on Peculiarities of the Landscape of Unions within the Process of Globalization specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The purpose of unions is to communicate collectively within the work process, regarding to its peculiarities and industrial characteristics. In this case, the members of unions can find the most appropriate solutions for improving the job security, increasing the benefits and overcame the fears of penalty. The history of unions provides a clear demonstration of its importance and power. However, the current economical situation and Globalization impact the work process on the different levels; therefore the unions should develop the new ways of broaden their appeal to a workplace environment. During the past century, workers of all industries have been searching for the work conditions’ improvement. It was extremely important to develop the new methods of the job security and increase the living standards. In order to achieve those goals, at the beginning of the century, in America was created the Teamsters Union with about 1,3 million members. In 1957, this union was reorganized into AFL-CIO that counted above 13 million workers. The changing landscape caused the reduction of the members. When the giant corporations realize the benefits of the use of human resource that requires lower wage rates, the unions were not able to stop this process. The influence of Globalization led to the terrible situation within the work environment. Moreover, the introduction of the modern technologies reduced the value of human resource. The companies realized that it is easier to control an automatic process than workers. Therefore, the technical advantage such computerized technologies led to the negative changes for the workers. Nevertheless, the unions were able to compete with the corporations, bargaining the agreements, dictating their clauses and providing a good protection of the workers. The large unions such as the national Educational Association of the United States, United Food, and Service Employees International Union demonstrated a successful policy. The highest ration of the unions’ members is in the public sector.Advertising Looking for case study on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! If at the beginning the unions were made of â€Å"blue-collar† workers of the manufacturing sector, today, the t otal range of them is only about 35%. Today, modification of the unions’ philosophy is highly important step that should help to accommodate the unions to the shifting landscape. The workers seek for the extension of the unions in order to broaden their membership rights. XXI century requires introduction of the new dimension. Therefore, today, we can observe the changes of the unions that experience a reduction of the members, its value and power within the working process. Nowadays, the unions should provide more strict and effective methods in order to prove their ability to manage the work process and to improve the situation. The companies provide bargaining agreements that include bigger salary of the unions’ members than non-members. However, Globalization and landscape change as its peculiarity influences the position and power of the local unions. One of the bright examples is the British trade union that was very productive in the age of industrialization. To day, we can notice the high level of reduction within the British manufacturing. For the giant companies such as Shell, Unilever, Tesco is more profitable to use the human resource of the developing countries. The local unions should pay more attention to the various community activities. They have to realize an importance of the policy of broad communication with the different social structures. One of the reforms can be directed on the schools. Involving students into the communicative process, the unions can educate the new members who will create the new methods and improve the current system. This process can be reached by paying taxes to the schools. Although such method can be considered as expensive, the results are worst of this expenditure. Sponsoring the educational programs, the unions’ managers could create closer relations between the top of the organization and the members.Advertising We will write a custom case study sample on Peculiarities of the Landsca pe of Unions within the Process of Globalization specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The second solution can be found in the reduction of the fluctuations and developing of the financial stability. The unions should provide an independent policy based on the internal capital. The financial freedom helps being responsible through the surveillance of the giant corporations and government. The history of unions demonstrates their ability to manage the complicated social problems. However, today, there is a negative tendency of the reduction of the unions’ power. Workers are not interested to join the unions due to their inability to withstand the changes. Although workers today are more protected than one hundred years ago, the unions should provide the reforms that could protect members from the negative influence of the landscape changes within Globalization. The financial freedom and involvement of the young members can help the u nions create the new competitive system. How to Write a Thesis in Criminal Justice Ultimate Guide

How to Write a Thesis in Criminal Justice Ultimate Guide Wondering how to write a master thesis in criminal justice on the topic of your choice? A master thesis in criminal justice is often considered to be a ticket to labor market. It has to be an original contribution to this interesting field of studies which means that you need to provide an answer to original research question which hasn’t been exhaustively discussed in previous publications. Writing this final project can be really challenging because you need to do more than just reproduce what other scholars have written on your topic. A thesis is a long-form research paper that develops the original thought and presents new insight within the academic field. To help you get started, we offer you a complete guide on how to write a thesis in criminal justice where you can find recommendations on choosing an interesting topic, formulating a good research question, creating a research proposal, writing a draft, revising, editing, and proofreading. If you face problem with completing other academic projects, check our full guides to all writing assignments out there. Specifics of Writing a Thesis in Criminal Justice Criminal justice is a cross-disciplinary field that examines causes of crime, making laws, and efforts to control crime made by society through systems of criminal and juvenile justice. Writing in criminal justice involves creating well-documented arguments and formulating a defensible thesis statement supported by evidence. An effective thesis statement should be easy to understand, clear, concise, and supported by research and evidence. Students who take criminal justice courses are asked to summarize scholarly articles, synthesize research material, and apply different theories to analyzing particular cases. Being an empirical field of studies, criminal justice uses carefully collected and documented evidence to support arguments. This evidence is divided into 2 categories: quantitative data expressed in numbers and drawn from statistics, surveys, content analysis of documents, and experiments; qualitative data is based on texts, interviews, and observations, and can be used to understand behavior patterns. Students who take part in a criminal justice Masters’ program are required to write a thesis on topic of their choice and defend it over the course of their final year. The goal of a thesis is to develop new knowledge on a specific topic through broad research. Writing a thesis gives every student an opportunity to prove his/her deep understanding of an academic field of criminal justice as well as abilities to do research and draw conclusions. Your thesis in criminal justice must be formatted using APA style guide. Your thesis should be based on the analysis of appropriate data to explore an empirical problem, examine a phenomenon or test a theory or hypothesis. And you should use appropriate field-based, laboratory-based, phenomenological, naturalistic or experimental methods or a combination of different methods. Choose a Winning Topic for Research If you decide to write a thesis in criminal justice, you should start planning your paper as early as possible. Identify a broad topic using general terms. You should choose a topic you are passionate about and narrow it to make it specific and manageable. Look for an overview of your topic in criminal justice in encyclopedias and select some specific aspect of your general topic. Then you will need to identify scholarly sources and read them critically to come up with an interesting research question or a realistic hypothesis. For example, when writing a project about racial disparity in the criminal justice system in the USA, your thesis statement/hypothesis may look like this one: ‘Racial disparity in the US criminal justice system is a persistent complex problem that exists due to legal and extralegal factors and results in differential treatment of people based on race by the criminal justice system. Racial disparities in case outcomes are driven by such case characteristics as prior criminal history and seriousness of the arresting offence.’ Selecting a good topic can be a difficult task so here are 15 powerful thesis topics for your consideration. History and Philosophy of Criminal Justice System; Correlation Between Ethnicity, Race, and Criminal Justice; Law Enforcement System: Ethics, Organization, Police-community Interaction; History of the Death Penalty in the USA; Data Analysis in Criminal Justice; Identification of Local Crime Cycles and Trends; Causes of Crime and Crime Victims; Criminological Perspective on Sexual Offending; Women in the Criminal Justice System: Victims, Offenders, and Professionals; Changing Attitudes to Punishment; Juvenile Justice in The USA; Psychology of Crime; Crime Control and Crime Prevention; Impact of Globalization on Criminal Justice; Statistics in Criminology. When writing your thesis, you will go through all the steps involved in doing research: Formulating a research question; Creating research design and doing research to collect data; Analyzing gathered data; Creating the final thesis. Your research can be done in different ways, including empirical socio-legal research that brings new insight on a criminal justice topic, literature research for developing recommendations or a policy plan, evaluation research which examines and analyzes implementation of a specific law or policy or effects of a specific law or policy, meta-analysis to determine effectiveness of a specific criminal justice law, policy or intervention. Keep in mind that research is a cyclic process that is going on as you are writing your thesis. After choosing a topic and conducting preliminary research, you will need to select a thesis committee and submit a research proposal briefly describing the project you are willing to conduct. Create a Research Proposal for Your Thesis in Criminal Justice The goal of a research proposal is to convince other people that you have a worthwhile research project and that you have a plan how to complete it. Your research proposal should include all the key elements of the research process and all the necessary information to help readers evaluate the proposed project. In your research proposal and an oral defense, you need to address the following issues: The purpose of your study, its theoretical and practical significance; The research question or hypothesis; Literature review describing basic findings of related studies; Methodology for collecting data and methods for data analysis; A proposed timeline for completing your thesis with deadlines for completing each section. Your final thesis may have the following structure: Abstract provides a brief overview of the entire thesis; The introduction indicates the gap in the existing knowledge and includes a hypothesis; A literature review evaluates the previous research on the topic; Methods section outlines methods for collecting data and analyzing results; The results section presents findings; Discussion chapter comments on the results and interprets them; Conclusions section emphasizes that research objectives have been achieved. Recommendations on Writing Chapters of a Thesis in Criminal Justice The abstract is typically written when the entire paper has been completed. It’s a concise summary of a thesis which shouldn’t be more than 350 words. In this document, you state the problem, tell about investigation, and present general conclusions. This part of your thesis shouldn’t include any graphs, tables or illustrations. The introduction presents research in detail. It should clearly state your theme, your goals, research question or hypothesis. It’s important to provide necessary background information to ensure that even non-specialists will be able to read and understand this part of your thesis. You can also provide a quick review of the existing literature. The literature review is a separate section which provides analyses of the previous research on the topic. It’s not a simple collection of summaries so you should approach it in an analytical, comparative, and evaluative manner. Analyzing the previous literature, you will provide the basis for a detailed formulation of the problem, setting of the goals, and the definition of the concepts. The content of this chapter is the ground to comparing results and making conclusions. The methods section justifies the choice and the use of data collection methods as well as methods of data analysis. You can use qualitative or quantitative data collection methods or their combinations. Your task is to tell your readers how you conducted your research so they will be able to replicate your study. The results section highlights the main research findings by presenting facts of their results without analyzing them. You will do analysis later when writing your discussion chapter. You should also present unrealized hypothesis and negative results. You can illustrate the key results with tables, direct quotes from the data, and figures. Discussions section gives a critical analysis of how the thesis goals were achieved. It’s the most important section in your thesis. You need to comment on your results and explain them to your readers. It’s critical to relate the results from your study to previous theory or research to emphasize how they feel the gap in the existing knowledge. You should also mention limitations of your research and provide recommendations about future directions. In the Conclusion section, you need to describe the overall contribution of your thesis to a broader field of studies. You have to provide conclusions about your hypothesis and goals presented in the introduction. You should also tell about the significance of your study, its strengths and limitations. Besides, you may provide suggestions on how your findings could be applied to solving real-life problems and tell about possible directions for further research. Revise Your Thesis in Criminal Justice Revision stage is very important because it allows you to sharpen your focus and argument and make it clear to your readers. At this point, you can also improve and further develop your ideas. Revision happens before editing and requires from you think large-scale. Here are some tips on using effective strategies for revising your thesis. Make a reverse outline of your draft. When your thesis has been written, create an outline of your thesis paper which will help you better see the paper structure and logical flow of your ideas. Rearrange your paragraphs if you notice some gaps in logic. Develop a check-list of what to look for according to guidelines for your thesis paper. Use highlighter approach to visualize where specific information is located and how it works as a whole throughout your project. Use highlighters of different colors to isolate various content elements of your thesis paper to see how they go together in your draft. Apply paragraph-level revisions to see whether all paragraphs are well-organized and effective. Review each paragraph separately to examine such elements as a topic sentence, transitions, progression logic, focus, and length. Make sure that each paragraph starts with a topic sentence that informs your readers about the main point and that there are transition words and phrases that allow readers to follow your logic. Divide a paragraph into two if you notice it’s too long or covers too many points. Cut rearrange. Print your thesis and cut your thesis into individual paragraphs with scissors. Then you will be able to physically rearrange paragraphs in your draft to see the best option for organization and the development of ideas in your argument. First, revise your thesis as a whole and make changes to improve the flow and the logic. Then revise paragraphs and separate sentences. Read your thesis aloud sentence by sentence and find places where you lost focus or which are too vague so they need fixing. Follow these tips to ensure that you write good sentences: Look for places where you use the same word twice in the same paragraph and find alternative ways to express the same idea. Use strong verbs in active voice. Make sure you use different sentence patterns in a paragraph. Mix complex sentences with simple and compound sentences for a variety. Try to avoid using too many sentences which start with there is and it is to make your paragraphs more engaging. Use a thesaurus and a good dictionary to find the precise words to convey your meaning. Finally, proofread your thesis in criminal justice and fix all minor grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes and typos and check your formatting to ensure that it is consistent. Writing a thesis in criminal justice can be a labor-intensive but rewarding experience. Its preparation can give you a taste for real-world research and be useful if you pursue a research or academic career. We hope that our easy writing guide will help you successfully complete your project from the beginning of the proposal to final defense and graduate with a Master of Arts degree.

GERMAN ASSIGNMENT Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

GERMAN ASSIGNMENT - Essay Example Every day he has to give it oil and trim the wick so that it always burns clear and bright. We pay him a dollar a week for that.† As the farmer went on his way, one of the travelers said â€Å"We could use this lamp. What a pleasure it would be not to have to walk about in the gloom at night.† â€Å"You know what?† said the second, â€Å"We’ll get a horse and wagon and take it away.† The third climbed the tree, bored a hole in the moon, stuck a rope through it, and let it down. They covered the moon with a cloth so no-one would see that they were being robbed of the moon and drove away. With luck they arrived in their own country and hung the moon in a high oak tree. Old and young alike were happy with the moon’s light that fell over the fields and in the houses and rooms. Even the dwarves came out of their caves, dressed in their finest red jackets, to dance in the meadows. The four supplied the moon with oil and trimmed its wick and weekly collected their dollar. But they were old men and as the first sickened and his death was in sight he ordered that one-quarter of the moon, as his share, be buried with him in his grave. As he was dying, the Mayor climber the tree and cut off a quarter of the moon to lay in his coffin. The light of the moon was reduced, but not very noticeably. When the second died the second quarter was given to him, and the light diminished itself. Still weaker was it after the death f the third, likewise taking his share with him, and when the fourth went to his grave, the old gloom trampled once more over the country. When the pieces of the moon were reunited in the Underworld where darkness had always prevailed, the dead stirred and woke from their sleep. They were astonished that they were able to see as though it were daytime. The light of the moon was enough because their eyes were weak from not having seen the brilliant sun for a long time. They got up and joyfully took up their old way of life again.

Emily Dickinson Essay Example for Free

Emily Dickinson Essay Emily Dickinson’s place in history has affected many aspects of social order. Dickinson’s writing touched on many issues that were very important to the life and development of Dickinson’s persona; such as religion, war, psychosis, and love. Dickinson’s insight into these issues has been the source of the majority of the interest in her work. Emily Dickenson, throughout her life, sought a personal understanding of God and his place within her life. Her place within the Calvinist Puritan Amherst, however, would not allow for her inquiry into the understanding of the nature of God other than within their specific doctrine. In her childhood Emily Dickenson was shy and already different from the others. Like all the Dickinson children, male or female, Emily was sent for formal education to Amherst Academy. Dickenson began to develop into a free willed person. Many of her friends had converted to Christianity, and her family was also exerting enormous amount of pressure on her to convert. Her father, along with the rest of the family, had become Christians and she alone decided to rebel against that and reject the Church. She had rejected the traditional views in life and adopted the new transcendental outlook. Dickenson’s questioning about God began at an early age. â€Å"Once (to Higginson) she recorded another bit of mystification at adult behavior†. (Sewell 326) As Sewell recounts, Dickinson’s reservations about the nature of God began as early as her genius. As a child, we are told Dickenson felt a disturbance in the speech of a clergyman during as funeral. â€Å"[She was] disturbed by the clergyman’s question, ‘Is the Arm of the Lord shortened that it cannot save? ’†(Sewell 326) Dickinson’s poetry is a window into her quest for this understanding. In poem number 1241, Dickinson concentrates on nature and its relativity to science. Dickinson looks upon a lilac in the late light of a setting sun. Set on a hill, it receives the last light of day, and subsequently, is the last thing that God sees of that day. The sun is given the action of intending the lilac to be meant for â€Å"Contemplation – not to Touch†. I think this is an allusion to the Calvinist ideal of seeking God through action. Dickinson felt that the actions of the church that surrounded her were hollow and led one no closer to understanding the true nature of God than she had attained in her poetic questionings. The flower is given, above humanity, the focus of God’s eye. â€Å"The scientist of Faith† that Dickinson speaks of in this poem is denied any furthering of his understanding when she says: â€Å"His research has but just begun / Above his synthesis / The Flora unimpeachable / To Time’s Analysis’’. Here, Dickinson is saying that it is not through active searching that one will find the true nature of God, but in the witnessing of His actions—such as the creation of lilacs. She ends the poem with the line â€Å"Eye hath not seen† may possibly / Be current with the blind / But let not Revelation / By theses be detained†. This tells the reader that Dickinson felt that the active search for God, (with the eye) will fail. However, the â€Å"blind† will not have their revelations detained. In the poem #564 Dickinson centers on the physical building of churches as a problem with her understanding of God. Within this poem Dickinson tells the reader that the deification of the man made houses of worship also distract from one’s understanding of God. The line â€Å"God grows above—so those who pray / Horizons—must ascend† illustrates Dickinson’s idea that limiting one’s view, as in focusing on a building rather than God himself, would hinder one’s ability to see God. Dickinson goes on to clarify, succinctly, her feelings on the worshiping of God through churches: â€Å"His house was not—no sign had He / By Chimney—nor by Door / Could I infer his Residence— / Vast Prairies of Air† Dickinson tells the reader that nothing tangible or built by the hand of man has been seen by God as His house. Dickenson contends that there is a separation between â€Å"praying and â€Å"worshipping†. The churches used by the people around Dickinson are used to â€Å"worship† and show the action of belief. Whereas praying is the only way to â€Å"reach† God and prove one’s heart as a believer. In the poem numbered 1499, Dickinson again questions the physical place worship by calling insecure the â€Å"Physiognomy† of the Calvinist theology. Dickinson begins this poem by acknowledging the temporality of the human visage: â€Å"How firm Eternity must look / To Crumbling men†. Dickinson obviously feels that the â€Å"face value† of religion is passing and worthless. She felt that the eternality of action and the long lasting effects of true faith were far more important and worth while. The questions raised by Emily Dickenson within her poetry, echoes the problems that people have had with religion for ages—where does the truth about God reside? Dickenson wanted to find a peace that accompanied the acceptance of God; however her exposure to the Calvinist Puritans stifled that. Her distain and mistrust from the sect resounded throughout her life and her poetry. Though not all of her poetry maintained such as hard line rejection of Puritan ideals, the ones selected here illustrate her desire to find something else, outside of the Calvinist dogma that better explained to her the nature of God. It has been â€Å"suggested that [the] contradictions in Emily Dickinson [‘s poetry] were due to her dual nature, which made her at once a pagan and a â€Å"sincerely religious woman. † (Voigt 193) This constant pull within her life, caused Dickinson to struggle throughout her lifetime with her desire to loved by God, and her inability to accept the blind faith that accompanies devotion to religion. The several poems that I am looking at are examples of how Emily Dickinson’s lack of center and acceptance manifested itself into poetry. In poem numbered 315, for example, the fumbling of the unnamed â€Å"he† at the soul of the narrator is immediately seen as the ultimate of personal invasions. The hap-hazard bumbling of this â€Å"he† is made worse by the â€Å"stun[ning]† that is caused by this invasion. The different degrees of this stunned soul hints at the multiple levels of invasion that is taking place—emotional, physical and, presumably, spiritual. The objectifying human â€Å"Nature† as brittle is an obvious tool to illustrate the suffering that humanity is plagued with throughout their lives. It also brings in the idea of death and mortality to the concept of human existence. The â€Å"he† deals the final blow the brittle human narrator with â€Å"One – Imperial – Thunderbolt† (315. 11) This assumed death, however, does not promise an escape from the constant suffering of life, but instead we learn that â€Å"The Universe – is still –â€Å" (315. 12) The final dash after â€Å"still† tells the reader that the universe is still moving, turning, and continuing the pain that the narrator wishes to be freed from. The Civil War was another issue that was addressed by Dickinson. With the poem, â€Å"The name – of it – is ‘Autumn’†, Dickinson uses natural imagery to describe the horrors of war. David Cody wrote, in his article on the poem, that Dickinsons poem continues both to beckon and to baffle its readers, and the present essay is devoted not so much to an attempt to guess its meaning as to the more modest task of recalling or reviving, palingenetically as it were, some faint ghost or echo at least of the rich, complex and increasingly remote cultural moment in which it came into being. Precisely because it seems to embody. (Cody 24) Ed Folsom wrote that her poem, numbered 754 â€Å"My Life has stood – a loaded gun†; â€Å"explicitly with the Master/slave relationship†. (Folsom) The poem identifies with the slave’s reality of being worthless until pressed into service by the master. The work that Dickinson did during her lifetime was as diversely inspired as it was cryptic. However, the subjects that were covered by her work still hold enough interest and importance to warrant a continued study. The questions that Dickinson raised about religion, echoed the questions of many people who were slowly becoming disenfranchised with the Calvinist movement. Her own issues with psychosis were also subject to her eye. The poems she wrote about her lack of understanding of the world, and the fear that kept her secluded from society offer a deep insight into her mind. Lady In A Rocking Chair Essay -- essays research papers

Back … forth … back … forth … she sits in her creaky rocking chair pleasantly reminiscing about her lost childhood as she crochets a warm fuzzy quilt for her granddaughter. Out of nowhere her desire to finish the quilt before noon fades and she find her attention drifting towards the window and looking at a giant maple tree bejeweled in sparkling frost. The tree is old and withered, it has aged immensely; it is somewhat like the old woman … even the texture of the bark is likened to the wrinkles on her face and body. Beyond the bark there is a history of both painful wounds and happy memories, each and every one just as vivid as the next. It is astounding how this tree, such an ordinary and natural commodity can bring back so many fond and colorful memories. One of the lower branches of the tree appears to be mangled and frayed. She remembers it when it was in perfect condition, housing a handmade, wooden swing hanging from a brand new strand of coarse r ope. Over the years the rope had turned from a brilliant golden-yellow to an almost brownish-amber. She would come home each day and was always comforted by that same tree and that same swing, though she never understood why because to everyone else, it was just a tree, but to her, it was as comforting as a warm fuzzy blanket. She remembered attending her first day of school when she was a young child. Everything was so unfamiliar to her; new faces, new voices, a whole new world she could then discover on her own, without her mother holding her hand. Unfortunately the fun she expected to have did not go as she could have hoped. It was a seldom occurrence for anyone to ask her to play with them. She spent most of the school day in seclusion quietly playing in the corner with an array of plastic blocks. At certain points she just wanted to cry or go back home to the warm, loving arms of her mother; that is where she felt safe and shielded from the evil of the world. Somehow, no matter how bad her day had gone, her mother could always make it all go away with a soft kiss to the cheek and a gentle pat on the bum. She would always pack a nutritious lunch for her to take to school. There was something about the way a mother makes a sandwich that makes it taste so much better than when you try to make it yourself , maybe it’s because it’s made w... ...t year, the worst happened. She was diagnosed with cancer, the same kind her mother had died from just a few years back. The bad news hit her like a ton of bricks. Ingo attempted to ease her pain by taking her out and doing all sorts of fun activities, but she found herself getting even more depressed and frustrated every time they went out. To her, it was just a reminder of the bad news and what was yet to come. Her condition began to worsen each and every day. It was unbearable for the family to watch, and as painful as it was to do, they began to avoid her. Anytime they tried to comfort her, she would only snap at them, even though she knew they were only trying to help and had her best interests at heart. Here she sits, rocking in her rocking chair, back … forth … back … forth … with her quilt nearly finished now. Her rocking chair creaks with each subtle movement and eventually the creaking diminishes to a faint sound and finally no sound at all. She had left the world in peace quicker than she had entered it but still much too soon. I guess it’s true what they say about your life flashing before your eyes just before you die.

Isak Dinesen’s “The Blue Jar” Essay

Blue Roller coasters are the best rides at amusement parks. On the way up your head is filed with mixed emotions and your body tingles with anticipation. On the way down your mind no longer thinks but reacts to the track ahead and your body is filled with excitement. Then, it is over. The ride was short and ended as quickly as it begun. Isak Dinesen’s â€Å"The Blue Jar† is like a roller coaster. Its plot follows the track of exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and conclusion not once, but twice. Also, it isn’t only up and down but many twist and turns are discovered during the course of the plot as well. The effect of this unusual double plot exposes Helena’s character and her changes. The opening two paragraphs is the mini plot. The exposition introduces us to the main character, Lady Helena and her father, an old rich Englishman. They sail around the world to such places as Persia, Japan and China collecting blue china. The rising action is brief and consists of two words, â€Å"It happened.† Then the climax happens rapidly. The boat they are traveling on catches on fire and Helena is forgotten. Luckily, a young English sailor rescues her and carries her to a waiting lifeboat. The Falling action in the mini plot is their nine-day ordeal of floating for nine days before they are recovered. The conclusion of the concise plot is the Dutch merchantmen ship, Helena’s return to England, her reunion with her father and finally, the father paying and sending the young sailor who rescued her to the other hemisphere. The mini plot effects Helena in many ways. It shows the bond that Helena and her father have because they travel the world together. The old Englishman loves his daughter very much, â€Å"The old lord had believed his daughter to be dead. He now wept with joy, and at once took her off to a fashionable watering-place so that she might recover from the hard ships she has gone through.† The father loves her so much, he believes that it is unpleasant for Helena to think that she was rescued by someone from a lower class, â€Å"For what, would be the good of that.† The ending of the mini plot also arises questions about Helena. Is she going to recover? What is she going to do now? The mini plot also has grabbed the readers’ attention, drawn them into the story and changed the focus of the story to Helena. The major plot of the story has now taken over. The exposition is lady Helena’s recovery and her new apathetic view on life. The rising action entails that lady Helena has become obsessed with the perfect blue color. Even her father cannot distract her from her goal when he suggests that it might not exist. Helena’s reply, â€Å"Surely there must be some of it left from the time when all the world was blue.† The climax has Lady Helena ultimately finding her perfect blue jar she was in search of for so long. Her father has already passed away but Helena’s life is complete, â€Å"I have found it at last. This is the true blue.† The falling action takes over and her life’s meaning has ended, † now I can die. And when I am dead you will cut out my heart and lay it in the blue jar. For then everything will be as it was then. All shall be blue around me, and in the midst of the blue world my heart will be innocent and free, and will beat gently, like the wake that sings, like the drops that fall from an oar blade.† The conclusion is short; she dies shortly after her discovery. This major plot answers the question left by the mini plot. Yes, Helena recovers and she decided to look for a blue jar like her father use to collect blue china. This brings together the importance of the blue jar as it relates back to the mini plot exposure of Helena and her fathers bond. Her whole life she was surrounded by blue. When her and her father were sailing, she had the blue skies and the blue water. When she was at home with her father she had all the blue china. Blue meant safety and love to her and now her dead heart was engulfed in that same blue she had been looking for. The effect of this unusual double plot is that it exposes Helens true character. It also reveilles the love and bond Helena and her father share. Lastly, this unusual double plot makes the story interesting.

Movie Review Gone Girl - 909 Words

In recent years, movies based on books have become increasingly popular. It is now the norm for film trailers to advertise, â€Å"based on the best-selling novel.† This tends to cause some problems with fans of the book being portrayed. Some fans might not like the portrayal of the characters or how the movie doesn’t capture the same essence as the novel. But in some cases, people who have read the book enjoy the film more. In 2012, Gone Girl was published, and 2 years later the film was released into theaters. Movie reviewers from around the world offered their insight and opinions on the movie when compared to the novel. These reviewers targeted an audience who were fans of the book and interested moviegoers in general. The argument, ‘book versus movie’ takes many different sides in regarding Gone Girl, from reviewers favoring the novel more or vice versa, and some that fall in the middle. Owen Gleiberman, a film reviewer for BBC News, made it clear tha t he thought the book was better than the movie. Gleiberman starts his review discussing how movies based on books aren’t the same nor as good, and how fans don’t seem to be that bothered by the differences. He goes on to summarize Gone Girl’s main plot and discusses the actors, characters and their background information. In the second section of the review, Gleiberman reminisces over the novel and how the movie doesn’t offer the same feel in regarding the marriage between the two main characters.
